Day 01:
... / LIMA
Upon arrival, reception and transfer to selected hotel. The city of Lima was founded by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro on January 5, 1535, the eve of the Epiphany of the Magi – from which it derived its evocative original name of La Ciudad de los Reyes or “The City of Kings”. It is a colonial city of rare fascination and unexpected pleasures; with quiet elegant corners among ancient buildings where the night air is scented with jasmine. Overnight in lima.
Day 02:
LIMA
After breakfast, you will enjoy a guided city tour to Lima’s different attractions and get to know its three different historical periods: Pre-Hispanic, Colonial and Republican. You will begin the tour visiting one the most traditional residential areas in the capital, then Huaca Pucllana, an archaeological precinct build in the IV century B.C., to then continue to the Lima’s historic center, where you will admire its main squares and its distinct buildings and churches. Finally, you will visit Miraflores, where you will enjoy a great view of the Pacific Ocean before returning to your hotel. In the afternoon, you are free to walk to Larcomar, just a few blocks from your hotel, a recreation center with a great view of the Pacific Ocean, where you will find a Shopping Center, a Fun and Gaming place, with wonderful services, restaurants and bars; or just walk around Miraflores, which is known for its shopping areas, restaurants, gardens, flower-filled parks and beaches. Overnight in Lima.
Day 03:
LIMA / PUERTO MALDONADO / LIBERTADOR LODGE
After breakfast, at the appointed time, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, reception and transfer to the Tambopata River dock, where a motor boat ride will take you to Tambopata Eco Lodge. Upon arrival, after a short briefing, you will settle into your beautiful cabaña for a refreshing siesta. In the afternoon, after lunch, you will enjoy an introductory guided walk into the Terra Firma forest behind the lodge, to admire the spectacular flora and fauna of this region. After dinner, you will enjoy a night guided excursion seeking for nocturnal animals and insects. Overnight at Tambopata Eco Lodge.
Day 04:
TAMBOPATA ECO LODGE
After an early breakfast, a short motorized boat ride will take you to the trail head to begin a morning guided exploration to the lake system of Condenado, a lake rich in bird and aquatic life. In the afternoon, after lunch, you may explore the forest close to the lodge, relax and bath in the Gallucunca (a cool clear stream beside the lodge), or climb the canopy walkway, a suspended bridge connected by tree platforms (extra cost), to enjoy landscapes and vistas that would be unimaginable from below, millions of species, many still undiscovered, spend their entire lives in this realm. After dinner, you will enjoy a motorized boat ride along the Tambopata River searching for black caimans (alligators) and other nocturnal animals. Overnight at Tambopata Eco Lodge.
Day 05:
TAMBOPATA ECO LODGE / PUERTO MALDONADO / CUSCO
After an early breakfast, a dawn start is required; a motorized boat ride will take you back to Puerto Maldonado, giving memorable views of the sunrise over the river. Look out for the early morning wildlife, which is particularly active at this time. Upon arrival to Puerto Maldonado, reception and transfer to the airport to board your flight to Cusco.Upon arrival, reception and transfer to selected hotel. You may find the altitude a little hard to handle at first so we recommend the rest of the morning to rest and acclimatize. In the afternoon, we suggest to either just sit and sip a coca tea in one of the cafes on the balconies overlooking the Plaza de Armas; stroll through the bustling Plaza de Armas in the heart of Cusco; or visit the San Blas district, with its narrow and very picturesque streets, which is known as the artists distinct and is full of workshops and craft shops as well as some good cafes and restaurants. At night we recommend visiting any restaurant or bar near the Main Square and enjoy the night atmosphere trying the delicious Peruvian cuisine with and a Pisco Sour, while listening to traditional Inca music. Overnight in Cusco.
Day 06:
CUSCO
After breakfast you will enjoy a half day horseback riding guided excursion to the main archaeological sites around Cusco. First you will ride to Qenko, where you will visit the Temple of the Moon and Lanlacuyoc, an Incan shrine dedicated to Pachamama or Mother Earth, where you will admire a large limestone rock completely covered with carvings and an underground labyrinth of sacred tunnels. Then you will ride through beautiful sceneries in your way to Puka Pukara, a small ruin known as the Red Fort, and Tambomachay, known as the Baths of the Incas, a centre for the worship of water. Finally you will ride to the impressive Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, a true testimonial to Incan architectural skills. From here you will enjoy an spectacular view of the red-tiled roofs of Cusco and it’s the breathtaking countryside. After the excursion, transfer back to your hotel. In the afternoon you will enjoy a walking guided tour through the most magical city in the Andes, former capital of the Inca Empire. In this tour you will admire the architectural legacy visible in many buildings and ruins. This guided sightseeing tour includes The Plaza de Armas, The Koricancha (Temple of The Sun), The Cathedral, La Compañia and La Merced. After the tour, return to your hotel. Overnight in Cusco.
Day 07:
CUSCO / VALLE SAGRADO / CUSCO
After breakfast and one and a half hours drive, you will arrive to the campground at the shores of the Upper Urubamba River. At this place your professional rafting guides will give you a safety talk and provide you with all the proper equipment for rafting. You would be rafting for approximately two and a half hours, running class II and III, introductory type rapids. Once in the take-out a bus will take you back to the campground, where you will enjoy lunch before returning to your hotel. Overnight in Cusco.
Day 08:
CUSCO / INCA TRAIL ( + / - 6 hours trek)
Early bus transfer to kilometer 82 of the Cusco- Machu Picchu railway. Upon arrival, after meeting your guides, you will start trekking along the left bank of the Urubamba River for approximately six hours. On the way to Huayllabamba, location of your first campsite, you will visit the Inca city of Patallacta. Overnight in Huayllabamba.
Day 09:
INCA TRAIL (+ / - 7 hours trek)
After breakfast, you will start the most strenous but the most spectacular day ascending to the highest point of the trail (Abra Warmihuanusca at 4,200 mts). On the way you will observe how the the landscape changes from Sierra to Puna; admire panoramic views of the spectacular scenery including cloud forest and snow-capped mountains; visit de archeological complexs of Runkuray y Sayamarca; to finally arrive to your second campsite at Pacaymayu. Overnight in Pacaymayu.
Day 10:
INCA TRAIL (+ / - 8 hours trek)
After breakfast, you will continue hikking in the most relaxing, as most of the trail is flat or descending. You will appreciate how the scenery starts changing from snow-capped mountains to green tropical forest. On the way you will visit the archaeological complex of Phuyupatamarca and Intipata to finally arrive to your last campsite at Winayhuayna. Overnight in Winayhuayna.
Day 11:
INCA TRAIL / MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO
After an early breakfast, a morning short hike will take you to Intipunku, “gate of the sun”, the entrance and best place to admire the spectacular citadel of Machu Picchu. After descending to the site you will enjoy a guided tour in this magical city. In the afternoon, at the appointed time, you will board the train service back to Cusco.
Day 12:
CUSCO / LIMA / ...
After breakfast, at the appointed time, transfer to the airport to board your flight to Lima and international connection.
