Day 01:
... / CAJAMARCA
Upon arrival, reception and transfer to selected hotel. Rest of the morning at leisure. In the afternoon, you will enjoy a half day guided tour to the city’s main attractions: the Main Square, the Cathedral and the 17th century Church of San Francisco, where the Museum of Religious Art is found, a fine collection of colonial oil paintings as well as mysterious catacombs. Continue on to the “Ransom Chamber” which the last Inca emperor, Atahualpa, filled once with gold and twice with silver so as to obtain his freedom in 1532. Afterwards, visit the Belen Complex which includes the Belen Church, constructed entirely of sculptured volcanic rock and the Medical, Ethnological and Archaeological Museums. Finally you will visit the Santa Apolonia hill, for a scenic view of the valley of Cajamarca where you can also see the ceremonial Inca Seat. After the visit, return to the hotel. Overnight in Cajamarca.
Day 02:
CAJAMARCA
After breakfast, at the appointed time, you will you will enjoy a guided excursion to the famous Graveyard of Otuzco, popularly known as the Ventanillas de Otuzco, a pre-Inca burial site where hundreds of crypts in the shape of small windows are carved into volcanic rock slopes. In the afternoon, at the appointed time you will enjoy a guided excursion to Cumbemayo Archeological Complex, which is surrounded by an interesting stone forest that seems to mimic the silhouettes of pious friars (for which it is popularly called “frailones” or giant friars) and includes: the aqueduct (1000 B.C.), a unique work of hydraulic engineering, the Sanctuary; a cliff that looks like a giant human head; and the Caves, which include cave paintings and carvings. After the excursion, return to the hotel. Overnight in Cajamarca.
