OVERVIEW
The Pre-Inca Chachapoyas culture, conquered in the 15th century by the Incas, has left a landscape scattered with villages and burial sites which until recently has been largely overlooked by archaeologists. Most of them are situated in the cloud forests around the town of Chachapoyas in Peru’s northern Amazonas; these sites are dominated by the mighty Fortress of Kuelap, perched majestically atop mountain-top cliffs overlooking the verdant Andean landscape..
ITINERARY
Day 01:

Early in the morning you will depart from Chiclayo by car or minibus to Chachapoyas for an approximately seven hours drive. On the way you will enjoy a box lunch. Upon arrival, reception and transfer to selected hostel. Overnight in Chachapoyas..
Day 02:
CHACHAPOYAS / REVASH / LEYMEBAMBA / CHACHAPOYAS
After breakfast you will enjoy a guided excursion by horse to the Archeological Complex of Revash, colorful funeral buildings perched on a ledge up high on a Cliff overlooking the valley near the town of Santo Tomas. The tombs walls at Revash are decorated with geometric designs and figures of camelids. After enjoying a box lunch, you will continue with the excusrion to the town of Leymebamba, where you will enjoy a guided visit to Centro Mallqui Museum that hosts an amazing collection of well-preserved pre-inca mummies discovered in the Laguna de los Condores. CHACHAPOYAS / KUELAP / CHACHAPOYAS
After breakfast you will enjoy a fascinating full day guided excursion to Kuelap, a spectacular pre-Inca fortress hidden atop a precipitous mountain at an altitude of 3,080 meters. Although Kuelap was discovered sixty years before Machu Picchu, it is not as well-known to the outside world. Nevertheless recent amazing discoveries in nearby areas that relate to Kuelap and to its history have captured the attention of archaeologists, international magazines and film companies.
