OVERVIEW
This spectacular region of glittering turquoise lakes and sparkling White Mountain peaks that spread along the Callejon de Huaylas, is a dazzling valley stuck between two mountain ranges, the Black and White Cordilleras, well-known by its impressive glaciers, within them the tallest peak in Peru, The Huascaran (6,768 m). Along the Callejon de Huaylas you will find picturesque and pleasant towns. In addition to its spectacular lagoons like Llanganuco and its thermal baths, is ideal for practicing adventure sports. After breakfast, at the appointed time, you will enjoy a full day guided excursion to the impressive archaeological complex of Chavin de Huantar, the oldest pan-Andean civilization dating back to 2000 BC. On the way, you will admire the towns of Recuay and Catac, as well as the Querococha Lagoon and will pass the Cordillera through the Cashuish tunnel. Upon your arrival to the archaeological complex you will admire a temple full of galleries and subterranean tunnels; the famous “Cabezas Clavas”, mythical stone figures in high and low relief; and the most remarkable piece "the Lanzon Monolitico de Chavin", a granite carving 4.5 m in height. After breakfast, at the appointed time, you will enjoy a full day guided excursion to the Huascaran National Park. One the way you will visit the towns of Carhuaz, one of the most populous in the department; Yungay, a city located at the foot of the imposing snow-covered Huascaran, a national sanctuary; Caraz, with its beautiful main square and its many of natural and architectonic sighs; it’s beautiful turquoise colored lagoons, Llanganuco, Chinancocha and Orconcocha. After breakfast, at the appointed time, you will enjoy a full day guided excursion to Pastoruri glacier, with an altitude of 5150 m, passing through the towns of Recuay and Catac as you head into the national park. In the park you will appreciate a great variety of exotic Andean species like the Puya Raimondi, which takes almost 30 years to grow and is consider the tallest flowering plant in the world. Moreover, as you trek along the foot of the glacier you will appreciate its near 300 lagoons like the Parón, Cullicocha, Llanganuco, Auquiscocha, Rajucolta, Querococha, Cuchillococha, among others.
