OVERVIEW
Choquequirao, considered as the second Machu Picchu or as her sister, is one of Peru’s recently-discovered archaeological sites. It is also considered as the last Inca refugee, which resisted per decades to the Spanish conquerors. It is located in the canyon of the Apurimac River in a strategic geographical area between Andean mountains and the edge of the jungle. ITINERARY
Day 01:
CUSCO / CHOQUEQUIRAO TREK (+ / - 5 hours trek)
Early bus transfer to Cachora, passing through the towns of Izuchaca, Limatambo (archaeological complex of Tarawasi), Puente Kunyac and the Saywiti pass. Upon your arrival, after meeting your guides, you will start hiking to the Capuliyoc Pass, highest point in the trek, where you will admire the impressive Apurimac Valley and the snowcapped Salkantay. Day 02:
CHOQUEQUIRAO TREK (+ / - 7 hours trek)
After breakfast, you will start descending, as you admire the beautiful scenery of the Apurimac Canyon. Upon crossing the Apurimac River you will initiate a steep ascent to Marampata, where you will enjoy lunch. After lunch you will continue hiking through scenery full of vegetation to finally arrive to Choquequirao, location of your second campsite, just in time to admire the beautiful sunset over the snowcapped mountains. Day 03:
CHOQUEQUIRAO TREK (+ / - 4 hours trek)
After the breakfast, you enjoy a guided tour to Choquenquirao, if conditions allow it you may admire sunrise from the site. After the guided tour through the impressive arqueological complex, you will start your returning hike, passing through Marampata and Santa Rosa, to Chiquisqa, location of your last campsite.
