The Sun Island is the largest in the Titikaka lake, the world's highest navigable body of water, a mystical and sacred place in Andean mythology since, according to the legend, the children of the Sun God, emerged from its waters to found the Tawantinsuyo (Inca Empire) . This island has been identified as the birthplace of several revered entities, including the Sun God itself. Moreover, it’s been considered as: a source of magnetic energy, the vertex of the earth and the cradle of the Inca Empire. Other attractions are the Uros Islands, a fantastic and unique compound comprised of artificial isles built from the totora reed (marsh reeds); the Taquile Island, where its habitants are distinguished by their detailed, fine, and colourful textiles; Sillustani, an impressive fortified burial towers (chullpas), where nobles were buried in these cylindrical chullpas in pre-Inca times.
