Title: NAZCA LINES
Interest: Culture
Trip Length: 15 hours
Overview: The Nazca Lines are one of the world’s greatest scientific mysteries. Throughout the Nazca Valley, an area of nearly 1,000 sq. km (390 sq. miles), there are at least 10,000 lines and 300 different figures known as Nazca Lines, considered an Archaeological World Heritage Site by UNESCO. There are many theories that try to explain the reason why ancient Peruvians created these figures that have been preserved for more than 2000 years under the harsh atmospheric conditions of the desert, but the most accepted theory states that ancient Peruvians used these lines as an enormous astronomic calendar. These enigmatic lines can be seen in its totality only from the air.

Title: CIUDAD SAGRADA DE CARAL
Interest: Culture
Trip Length: 10 hours
Overview: Caral is located in the valley of Supe and it is the oldest city in the Americas. It was one of the first cities constructed in the Central Andes and in the Americas. The construction of the Sacred City of Caral by the society of Supe started five thousand years ago, during the Late Archaic Period of the Central Andes (3000 - 1500 B.C.), and makes its contemporary to Mesopotamia and the old cultures developed in Egypt, India and China. The city was occupied for approximately one thousand years. The antiquity of Caral was detected through 18 dated radio carbonic tests made in the USA. As of its extension of around 65 hectares and its complexity The Sacred City of Caral is considered an archeological jewel and the most notable archaeological discovery of the later times. It is also evidence of the birth of civilization and of the formation of state-level social organization in the New World, achieved in isolation, without any contact with civilized societies in other parts of the world.

Overview: Paracas National Reserve, wedged in the middle of the coastal desert in the department of Ica, covers an area of 335.000 hectares and is the only national reserve that protects part of the Peruvian sea which is chilled by the cold Humboldt Current. This unique area is home to some of the world´s richest fishing grounds, made possible by marine up swells that bring to the surface vast masses of plankton, a vital food supply for hundreds of fish species. The Reserve is also home to guano-producing bird species and large colonies of sea lions. It is a haven for dozens of visiting migratory bird species and endangered species such as the marine wildcat or chingungo, the Humboldt penguin and pink flamingoes. The area also saw the rise of the Paracas culture, a major pre- Colombian civilization that left a legacy of superb textiles and items of pottery whose quality continues to astound visitors.
