Title: CIUDAD SAGRADA DE CARAL
Interest: Culture
Destinations: Ciudad Sagrada de Caral
Trip Length: 10 hours

Overview:
Caral is located in the valley of Supe and it is the oldest city in the Americas. It was one of the first cities constructed in the Central Andes and in the Americas. The construction of the Sacred City of Caral by the society of Supe started five thousand years ago, during the Late Archaic Period of the Central Andes (3000 - 1500 B.C.), and makes its contemporary to Mesopotamia and the old cultures developed in Egypt, India and China. The city was occupied for approximately one thousand years. The antiquity of Caral was detected through 18 dated radio carbonic tests made in the USA. As of its extension of around 65 hectares and its complexity The Sacred City of Caral is considered an archeological jewel and the most notable archaeological discovery of the later times. It is also evidence of the birth of civilization and of the formation of state-level social organization in the New World, achieved in isolation, without any contact with civilized societies in other parts of the world.

Itinerary:
Early in the morning, after a three hour drive north Lima, you will enjoy a full day guided excursion to the Sacred City of Caral, the most ancient civilization in the American Continent, established at the same time as Mesopotamia, Egypt, India and China. Once in the site you will visit six monumental pyramids, the amphitheater, the circular offering vents, central squares, residential areas and religious centers. After the excursion you will enjoy lunch and, if time allows, on the return trip to your hotel in Lima you may visit the Medio Mundo Lagoon, a natural aquatic formation with its own fauna and flora.
