Overview:
The Nazca Lines are one of the world’s greatest scientific mysteries. Throughout the Nazca Valley, an area of nearly 1,000 sq. km (390 sq. miles), there are at least 10,000 lines and 300 different figures known as Nazca Lines, considered an Archaeological World Heritage Site by UNESCO. There are many theories that try to explain the reason why ancient Peruvians created these figures that have been preserved for more than 2000 years under the harsh atmospheric conditions of the desert, but the most accepted theory states that ancient Peruvians used these lines as an enormous astronomic calendar. These enigmatic lines can be seen in its totality only from the air.
Itinerary:
Early in the morning, at approximately 3.30 am (if you go to Nazca) or 6.00 am (if you go to Ica), transfer to the station to board the tourist bus service. Upon arrival, reception and transfer to the respective aerodrome to enjoy a unique flight over the inexplicable and mysterious Nazca Lines, which were etched into the desert by a pre-Inca civilization between 900 B.C. and 600 A.D.. These enormous line drawings of animals, birds and geometric figures, which still remain etched in the desert, can only be appreciated from the air. Theories vary, but the most accepted belongs to German mathematician Maria Reiche, who believed it was an Astronomical Calendar of the ancient Peruvians.
